Everybody Loves Gadgets

There are so many electronic gadgets available nowadays, it is hard to know which ones to buy. Everything we used to do manually can now be done with something electronic.

In the past we used to entertain ourselves by playing games. Now children hardly ever play board games or card games unless they are on a computer, and some children have only ever played tennis or bowling on a Wii console!

Instead of searching for information in an encyclopaedia like our parents and grandparents did, we can now search the internet for anything we want, even on our smart phones such as Blackberry mobile phones if we don't happen to be nearer a computer.

If we wanted to buy a book in the past, we had to go to a bookshop, browse until we found something we liked, queue up to pay for it, take it home and read it, before putting it on a bookshelf to gather dust and take up space. But now we can download books instantly onto a computer or a e-reader such as a Kindle, and the recommendations are even made electronically.

If you don't like modern gadgets then the future will be quite difficult as more and more daily tasks and entertainment types will become electronic. Whether it is progress, or whether future generations will lament the loss of books and cinemas remains to be seen.
