MoneySupermarket Launches First Car Insurance Comparison App

A British price comparison website has become the first come to launch a car insurance comparison app which is now available to all iPhone owners.

Developed by award winning digital communications company MIG who have previously produced apps for the likes of Marks & Spencer, the MoneySupermarket car insurance app compares deals available through over 100 different insurance companies in order to find the cheapest deals available to users given their specific risk profile.

With MIG now being owned by American mobile marketing giant Velti, it is logical to assume that similar app will soon be launched in the US.

Saving users time and effort

The MS car insurance comparison app can now be downloaded from iTunes or alternatively the MoneySupermarket.com website itself. It is free to all users but will only work for UK based customers.

Once the app has been downloaded users are required to create a MoneySupermarket user account which will contain personal information about the users such as their name, age, gender and occupation. These are all factors which will influence the premiums that are on offer with insurers believing them to impact upon their risk profile. Young male drivers for instance are statistically more likely to be involved in an accident and make a claim than young females or indeed their middle aged equivalents. Insures therefore recognise this and offer cheaper premiums to groups that they consider to be statistically less likely to make a claim.

The advantage of having this account in place is that the details can be reused on subsequent occasions; saving users the time and effort required to re-enter this information every single time they are looking to retrieve a quote on a vehicle. The time it takes to conduct this laborious task is believed to be the biggest deterrent for motorists when it comes to car insurance; with many choosing to simply accept their renewal price rather than shopping around. This is despite the fact that the DVLA estimates that the average motorist would cut 30% off the price of their annual policy if they were to compare prices available through at least five different providers.

MIG have also designed the stage of entering vehicle details to be as quick and easy as possible; with users simply having to take a photograph of the registration plate number of the vehicle that they are looking to get insured on. This saves them the time and effort required to manually input this data, as well as reducing the possibility of human errors.

Compare and buy on the go

The app will then display all the car insurance quotes which are available to the user through the providers that are featured on the MoneySupermarket website. Each of these quotes will have a ‘click to call’ on them so that users can more easily contact the provider in order to make enquiries about specific details of the policy of which they are unsure or even arrange for the cover to actioned.
